Earthworks DK7-C High-Impact Case Review

Practical Buying Guide

Introduction:

If you’re someone who has purchased drum microphones individually, it would be a great idea to own a single case to carry them all in.

There are a few good carry cases to pick, but for this review we’re going to look at something more specific.

The Earthworks DK7-C High-Impact Case is purely designed for Earthworks drum mics, and it’s the best option if you own those.

Here’s our review.

Key Features:

This carry case is made from rugged plastic, and it’s specifically designed to hold Earthworks CMK4, CMK5, and DMK7 microphones.

The foam interior has custom cuts for all of those microphones, allowing you to place them neatly inside.

It then has a solid carry handle that allows you to carry all of those mics in one hand when you’re transporting them.

Earthworks DK7-C High-impact Case Review:

What To Expect from This Case

Quality

The overall quality of this carry case is amazing. It’s designed for high impacts, meaning it’s durable enough to protect all the mics inside, even if it falls down a flight of stairs.

This makes it perfect to travel with, as you’ll have peace of mind when storing it with airplane luggage.

It also just works well to keep your microphones stored when you’re not using them.

Construction

We’re not entirely sure what kind of plastic the case is made from, but it feels very solid. The foam inside the case is also soft, yet firm, keeping the microphones from shifting when they’re in position.

We also love the carry handle. It feels comfortable to hold, even when all the mics are in the case to make it heavier.

All Earthworks microphones have incredible construction quality, and you get the exact same thing here with the DK7-C High-Impact Case.

Performance

This case works well for every situation. If you need something to store all your microphones in to take to a gig, it works wonderfully. If you need something to just store your mics in at home, it works even better.

However, it’s only designed to work with Earthworks microphones. You can’t use this case if you have mics from another brand, as the foam cut-outs inside the case won’t cater to their shapes.

This makes the case a lot less versatile than many others, but it’s definitely your best option if you use Earthworks mics. Especially because it caters to the gooseneck designs of the Earthworks drum microphones.

Price Value Ratio

We won’t lie – this case is quite expensive for something that just holds your microphones. But that’s to be expected from Earthworks, as all of their products are on the pricier side.

However, this case will easily last many decades without ever breaking. So, you only need to pay the price once, and then you’ll have a carry case for life.

So, the price is worth the value it offers, in our opinion.

FAQ

How Long Do Microphone Cases Last?

Most microphone cases last forever. Since they’re designed to withstand heavy force and movement, their bodies don’t degrade.

The only parts that tend to break are the handles and the clips that lock the cases. Those can easily be replaced, though.

Is Earthworks a Good Brand for Drummers?

Earthworks is a great brand for drummers. The brand’s microphones have actually become increasingly popular in recent years.

They’re pricier than popular mics from Shure and Audix, but they produce much better drum sounds that are natural and very clean. If you want a professional drum mix, you’ll easily get it with a set of Earthworks microphones.

Conclusion

The Earthworks DK7-C High-Impact Case is your best option if you own a set of Earthworks mics and you don’t have a case for all of them.

If you own microphones from another brand, then you’d need to start looking for something more universal that can fit the mics inside the foam.

We loved using this case with Earthworks mics, but we couldn’t manage to fit mics of other shapes inside.
