Electro-Voice Everse8 Review

As an E-Drums Monitor

Introduction:

If you’re looking for something big and loud to hear your electronic drums, you should consider getting an amp or PA to place next to your kit. While there are plenty of good electronic drum kit amps available, there are even more general amps that are intended for any instrument.

One of those amps is the Electro-Voice Everse8. It’s a battery-powered PA, meaning you don’t need to plug it into a power supply.

We’re going to see how this amp holds up as a monitor for electronic drums. We’ll discuss the value and whether it’s worth buying compared to standard electronic drum kit amps.

Key Features:

The Electro-Verse Everse8 has dozens of incredible features, and all of them will benefit you in some way or another. Here are a few key ones that are worth mentioning.

The biggest drawcard of this amp is that it’s battery-powered. It’s run by a li-ion battery that keeps going for about 12 hours before you need to charge it again.

Another great feature is that the amp has a 4-channel mixer, along with a nifty smartphone app that allows you to mix everything you hear from the amp.

It has a Dynacord high-efficiency Class-D amplifier and a Dynacord DSP module. Those, combined with the 8-inch woofer and high-output titanium tweeter, give the amp lots of power and great audio quality.

Electro-Voice Everse8 Review:

What To Expect from This Speaker

Quality

The quality of the Everse8 is very impressive, and it’s all thanks to the Dynacord Class-D amplifier and DSP module. While those terms may sound confusing, just know that they make this amp sound a lot better than many others.

You get very clear sounds, and the amp does a great job of reflecting all the frequencies that you hear from electronic drums.

The 8-inch woofer makes your bass drum notes sound very deep and punchy, and the amp is powerful enough to raise the volume significantly without hearing any distortion.

If you want better audio quality, you can use the EV QuickSmart Mobile app and control an EQ from your phone. This is a great feature for drummers that don’t have an electronic drum kit that allows you to edit sounds.

Construction

One of the most impressive things about the Everse8 is that it’s highly weather-resistant. The polypropylene shell protects it from rain and splashes. This makes it an ideal amp to use for gigs, as it’s not likely to get damaged.

The li-ion battery allows it to last up to 12 hours before recharging, which is more than enough time for most settings. If you want to use this amp wirelessly with your electronic kit, you’ll be able to play without worrying about it dying.

However, we wouldn’t suggest relying on the wireless capabilities for it, as it’s better to play drums with cables connected.

The wireless function is the biggest drawcard of this amp for other features, but we wouldn’t say it’s a very attractive feature for drummers.

Performance

We’d say that this amp is very reliable. It always works very well, whether you use it wirelessly or not, and the fact that you can create an intricate mix from your phone adds even more depth to it.

It’s an amp that you’d want to take with you to band practice, and then all your bandmates would be able to plug their instruments into it, as long as there are only four of you.

Since you can wirelessly stream music to the Everse8, it’s also an amazing amp to use for parties and gatherings. You could be that guy that fetches their drum kit amp to play music while your friends are hanging out.

Price Value Ratio

Unfortunately, the Everse8 is a lot more expensive than most other electronic drum set amps available. However, it’s a lot more powerful, and it offers more in terms of sound control and performance.

If you want something more powerful than a standard e-kit amp, you may be very happy to spend more on an amp like this.

Its versatility also makes it a highly attractive option, as you can use it for your electronic drum kit as well as a bunch of other things.

Things To Consider:

Electro-Verse Everse8 for Home Practicing

This amp works wonderfully as a home practicing option. The audio quality is great, and you can easily place it next to your drum kit to work as a monitor. It has various setup options, so you can angle it toward you or put it on a stand.

However, we wouldn’t suggest using the Bluetooth function if you’re just using it for home practice. It’s a lot less risky to just plug cables in. There will be no chance of any delay that way.

Electro-Verse Everse8 for a Live Gig

This amp is incredibly powerful, so it works for live gigs as well. If you find yourself needing to use your electronic drums for a gig, it would be better to use an amp like this compared to a less powerful drum kit amp.

It’s also a great amp to run other instruments through, as it’s very versatile in its audio quality.

Conclusion

While the Electro-Verse Everse8 is a fairly new amp to the market, we think it competes quite well with all the other PAs that can be used for electronic drums. It’s a solid option, but we don’t think the Bluetooth function is a big selling point for drummers.

This is an amp that you should get if you want something very powerful and you’re happy to spend a lot more than what you would on a dedicated drum kit amp.

We’d say the best feature is the smartphone app that you can download to work on the mix. This gives you more sound control without needing to connect a mixer.
