Evans UV1 Snare Tune-up Kit Review

For Live Performance

Introduction:

If your snare drum is looking a bit old and worn, there are a few things you can do to freshen it up. The biggest thing would be to get a new drumhead, but you can also polish the metal, replace the snare wires, and do a bit of dampening to make the snare sound better.

Evans has made this all incredibly easy to do with their UV1 Snare Tune-Up Kit. It’s a complete package that will allow you to give your snare drum some much-needed tender, loving care.

Here’s our review of this package to let you know how valuable it is.

Key Features:

This tune-up kit comes with snare drumheads to put on both sides of the shell. The top one is a coated UV1, while the snare side head is a clear Snare Side 300.

You then get a set of snare wires, Evans EQ pods, a tuning key, lug lubricant, metal polish, a microfibre cloth, and a pair of Promark Rebound 5A drumsticks.

All these parts will help you replenish the look and sound of your snare drum.

Evans UV1 Snare Tune-up Kit Review:

What To Expect from This kit

Quality

The main thing to think about with quality is the drumheads that come with this package. The UV1 batter head offers a wide range of running capabilities, and it tends to dry out the tone of your snare drum a fair bit.

That makes the ghost notes played on your snare drum sound very distinct, so it’s a great drumhead for drummers that like to play lots of ghost notes.

The bottom head adds plenty of sensitivity to your snare, and the included wires add a lot of snap.

Overall, these heads and wires create an epic combination.

Construction

The included polish and lubricant do a fantastic job of making the metal parts of your snare drum look fresh again.

You’ll need to completely strip your snare drum down to get into all the cracks. It will take a bit of elbow grease, but you’ll notice very quickly how well these liquids do at keeping your snare looking pristine.

The included drum key also works much better than a standard drum key, as the design makes it a lot easier to use.

Performance

Once you’ve cleaned your snare drum up and retuned it, you can add the Evans EQ Pods to take away a few of the overtones you don’t want to hear.

You’ll find that with a fresh set of heads and snare wires, your snare drum will sound better than it has in ages.

This tune-up kit is an amazing thing to get to bring life back into your snare drum.

Price Value Ratio

The price is the biggest selling point here, as you’d pay well over $100 if you were to buy all these components separately.

Nowhere else will you find so many things included in such an affordable package, and that’s our biggest reason for suggesting this to all drummers.

Things To Consider:

Are Evans Heads Easier to Tune?

No, it depends on the drum shells that you have. Whether you have Evans, Aquarian, or Remo heads, it’s the makeup of the shell that will determine how easy or difficult the tuning process is.

How Do You Tune a Snare Drum?

You need to tighten the tension rods on the top side so that the batter head interacts nicely with the resonant head. You’ll tune it the same way you’ll tune toms, but you’ll take the snare wires into account. The tighter the bottom head is, the more sensitive the wires will be.

Conclusion

Evans have nailed it with this tune-up kit. It’s the perfect product to buy for drummers who want to give their snare drums a bit of attention.

It would be fantastic if you could choose different batter heads to come with it, but the UV1 is versatile enough for most drummers to like how it sounds.

We highly recommend this kit, and you’ll quickly realize how much value it offers after buying it.
