Drum thrones come in all shapes and sizes. You get different seat types and design mechanisms, making the pool of thrones to choose from quite large. The problem is that many thrones are surprisingly expensive.
If you’re not too keen on spending a lot of money on a throne, you’ve come to the right place. We’re going to look at the Gibraltar 6608 drum throne. Because of this, you’ll find that Gibraltar has some excellent hardware options in the lower price ranges. That’s mainly what they’re known for, and it’s where the 6608 drum throne falls under.
The quality of this throne is excellent. Although it doesn’t offer any fancy mechanisms, it does what it’s supposed to do very well. It’s durable, sturdy, and will last you many years of good use.
If you want a higher-quality drum throne with more features, you should check out the Gibraltar 9908. But for the bare minimum requirements in a solid option, the 6608 is ideal.
You’re going to be paying under $100 for this drum throne. That’s an amazing deal considering that some drum thrones will cost up to $400. It’s often quite hard to understand why someone would pay so much considering you just sit on it.
If you’re in that group of thought, the price-to-value ratio of the 6608 will be incredibly attractive to you. When it comes to choosing drum thrones, you don’t actually need more than a solid throne that raises high enough to be comfortable. Everything above that is a luxury.
You may find a drum throne that costs less than the 6608, but you won’t find a cheaper one with a motorcycle-style seat at the surface.

There are a few things to make sure of when choosing a drum throne. Firstly, you need to make sure that the throne raises high enough for your drum setup. If you’re someone who likes to have your drums positioned very high, not all drum thrones will raise high enough for you to sit comfortably.
You should also strongly consider getting a throne that has double-braced legs. This will ensure that it’s as sturdy as possible. If you travel and play gigs frequently, then you should consider getting a lighter throne with single-braced legs. Other than that, double-braced legs will always be a better option.
You should then choose between getting a round throne or a motorcycle-style one. This comes down to personal preference. Some thrones will also have a backrest. We don’t advise using one of those as backrests have the potential to make you lazy in your posture while sitting at the drum kit.
Yes! Drum thrones are specifically designed for drum sets. If you use a standard chair, you won’t be able to raise or lower it. If you use a raisable chair, it won’t be as sturdy as a drum throne. There’s no substitute for a good drum throne.
At the end of the day, the Gibraltar 6608 is the best option for anyone not wanting to spend a lot of money on a throne. It gives you everything you need, it’s sturdy, and it will last a good number of years if taken care of properly.
If you don’t have a great throne at the moment, the 6608 may be a worthy replacement to consider getting.
