In this review, we’ll be looking at the Gibraltar 9608MB Moto-style drum throne. It’s one of Gibraltar’s best thrones on offer, and it’s a worthy option for any drummer looking for a premium seat.

The defining features of the Gibraltar 9608MB are its Moto-style seat and its backrest. These are two components that make it an attractive throne option for many drummers.
It has double-braced legs, and it’s quite heavy, making it a very sturdy throne to sit on. It also has oversized rubber feet to add to its sturdiness.
You can spin the throne around to easily adjust its height, and it has a max height of 28”. This makes it a great option for tall drummers who need to sit high.
Lastly, the cushion has Cordura/vinyl covering, which makes it feel soft and comfortable to sit on.
Since this is one of Gibraltar’s top drum thrones, it has amazing quality. Every aspect of it feels premium, from the feet to the adjustment system to the cushion.

The construction features are highly appealing with the 9608MB. Starting with the oversized rubber feet, they give the feeling that the throne won’t move on the ground, no matter how much you move while playing the drums.
The height adjustment is very well designed. You simply loosen one of the wing nuts, and then you can spin the throne to raise or lower it. Once you have it in place, you can lock the wing nut to secure the height.
The backrest is the one dividing aspect when it comes to construction. When you connect it, it sits quite forward above the cushion. This pushes you forward when you’re playing the drums. While that’s good for posture, many drummers find it a bit uncomfortable.
It’s a bit of a hit-or-miss design aspect, but you can always remove the backrest if you don’t like how it feels.
While this throne doesn’t sit amongst the most expensive ones on the market, it certainly isn’t the most affordable either.
It has a price tag that you’d expect from a professional drum throne, and it’s fairly competitive compared to the rest of the available drum thrones with similar features.
However, there are a few drum thrones from other brands that cost slightly less.
We say the value for money is excellent with the Gibraltar 9608MB. If you want to save a bit of cash, you could get something more affordable, but we think you’d love this throne if you got it.
Since the Gibraltar 9608MB is a heavy-duty throne, it works wonderfully in studio settings. It’s very comfortable to sit on for long hours, and the backrest is a lifesaver for those lengthy studio sessions.
The throne works quite well for different body types, so it’s also a good option to have in a studio where many drummers come and track drum parts.
The Gibraltar 9608MB is also a solid option for live gigs. It’s heavy, so it will be a bit of a mission to transport it around. However, you’ll be glad you did when you’re sitting at your kit with a solid throne beneath you.
The comfort it gives, along with the option of having a backrest, makes it a highly appealing drum throne for gigging drummers.
A good drum throne is incredibly important to your overall playing ability as well as your posture. Playing with a low-quality drum throne won’t feel as comfortable, potentially lowering your ability to play things on the drums. The more comfortable you are, the better you’ll be able to play.
Good drum thrones are also just a lot less frustrating to use. Poor-quality drum thrones have tricky height adjustment systems that make it very difficult to get your preferred height setting.
The two main types of drum seats on thrones are round and saddle seats. Round seats are typically more affordable.
Saddle seats have a wide variety of shapes, including Moto-style seats. They’re more expensive, but they’re often a lot more comfortable.
Gibraltar drum thrones are excellent. The great thing about Gibraltar thrones is that most of them have very competitive price tags.
Many thrones from Gibraltar offer you more quality and performance than higher-priced thrones from other brands.

The backrest won’t be every drummer’s cup of tea, but you can easily remove it to feel more comfortable if you don’t like it. The benefit of the backrest is that it keeps you upright while also giving you something to rest on to give your back a bit of a break.
