Pearl Roadshow Review

Practical Buying Guide

Introduction:

Pearl’s Roadshow kit has been one of the top beginner options for over a decade. The kit offers everything a newer drummer would need, and it sounds great too.

In this review, we’ll go even deeper into why it’s such a hot pick. We’ll look at the build quality, sound quality, and the overall value of what it brings.

By the end, you’ll know whether this is the kit for you or not.

Key Features

The main feature of the Pearl Roadshow is that it’s an all-in-one package. You get drums, cymbals, and hardware. This makes it the best option for drummers who don’t own any drum gear yet.

The shells are made from poplar wood, which is pretty standard for drum kits under $1000.

You get multiple finish options, allowing new drummers to add a bit of personality to their kit based on what their preferences are.

The final feature worth mentioning is that the bass drum has a port hole, allowing you to put a mic through it. That’s usually not something the drum kits offer, so we love the inclusion!

PROS: THINGS WE LIKED

CONS: THINGS WE DIDN'T LIKE
  • Only a beginner option. More experienced drummers will need something higher-quality

FEATURED ON

What to Expect from the Pearl Roadshow:

Quality

The main sound quality of the drums comes from the poplar shells. All the toms have plenty of depth to them, but you get a bit of a paper-like sound when you strike them. For beginners, this is perfect. But it’s the main reason why experienced drummers wouldn’t enjoy this kit.

The quality of the hardware is fantastic. Our favorite aspect of getting a drum set like this is that you can continue to use the hardware after you upgrade to better shells.

Pearl has always been a top option when it comes to hardware, and it shows clearly with the Pearl Roadshow.

Construction

There are several different versions of the Roadshow drum kit, which is another reason why it’s such an amazing beginner option. Drummers are spoiled for choice, and you can pick whatever setup you like the most.

The included drum throne is very sturdy, and the bass drum pedal has a wonderfully smooth performance to it.

Naturally, all of the build quality doesn’t feel as solid as it does on higher-end drum kits, but that’s not something a beginner drummer will really notice anyway.

Performance

It may take a bit of work, but you can tune this drum kit to sound incredible with the right drumheads on it.

We noticed that all of the drums stay in tune for quite a while, which is something that other entry-level drum sets tend to struggle with.

If you’re looking for a drum kit to use on stage, this may not be the best option. But it’s the perfect pick to use in a practice room to learn and improve your skills.

Prive to Value:

The price of the Pearl Roadshow is its best feature. It’s one of the most affordable drum kits on the market that comes from a reputable drum brand. Any other kit that is cheaper and offers the same things likely comes from a untrustworthy brand.

You get everything you need for less than $700, whereas a lot of other drum kits don’t include hardware or cymbals.

For beginner drummers, this is definitely the highest value kit that we can recommend. You’d just need to buy higher-quality drumheads if you want the drums to sound a lot better.

Conclusion

We’re pretty sure that the Roadshow is one of Pearl’s most sold drum kits. The Pearl Export is another pick on the list, but those kits don’t tend to come with hardware, cymbals, pedals, etc.

If you’re looking to buy your first drum set, this is undoubtedly one of the best options you can go with. Whether you want a small green set or a larger red set, you’ll find that in the Roadshow range.

This kit will last years before you feel the need to upgrade. And when you do, you can still keep using all of the hardware.

I’m crazy about drums, it’s been my passion since I was 12 years old. I played in numerous bands going through different styles like Rock, Progressive, Pop & Jazz-Rock. After being featured in major music publications (DrumeoGuitar GuitarAudioIssuesMusicThinkTank I started this website to share my knowledge and create a resource for drummers of all levels.
