Bose S1 Pro Review

As an E-Drums Monitor

Introduction:

The Bose S1 Pro is one of the most popular portable speakers on the market. It’s been used by countless musicians to play gigs, practice in rehearsal spaces, and play sound for events.

In this review, we’re going to see how well this speaker works for electronic drums. Every electronic drum kit player needs a good speaker, and this could be a great option to go with.

We’re going to look at the quality, construction, performance, and value of the Bose S1 Pro, and we’ll see how those all relate to drumming. Let’s get right into it!

Key Features:

There are several key features that make the Bose S1 Pro as good as it is. Firstly, it’s incredibly lightweight, making it very easy to carry around. It only weighs 15 lbs. It also has a carry handle that makes carrying it with one hand a breeze.

It’s designed to be a portable PA, so it has a big battery that can run without any power cables being plugged in.

It also has two channels to work with. Each one has its own EQ and reverb controllers. This allows you to play drums as well as other instruments.

It also has a third aux and Bluetooth input. You can also use that for your electronic drums and then plug in two other instruments.

The two channels have the option of using Bose’s ToneMatch technology. You press a button, and the speaker does an automatic EQ to achieve certain sounds. There are options for vocals and guitars.

Bose S1 Pro Review:

What To Expect from This Speaker

Quality

The overall tonal quality of the Bose S1 Pro is very good. The amp has plenty of power, so you’ll be able to boost the volume of your drumming significantly without getting any distortion.

With the base-level sound, you get a good mix of lows, mids, and highs, so you can clearly hear everything you need to with your drum set.

ToneMatch switch isn’t the greatest thing for drumming, though. If you switch it to the vocal setting, it will make your drums sound very thin. If you switch it to the guitar setting, it also sounds thin, but not as much as the vocal one. So, it’s better to just leave that off.

Construction

We love the design of this amp. It’s a classic PA amp, but it has a very sleek design with a surprisingly light weight.

It’s often very difficult to carry PA amps around, but this one is so light that you can easily do it. This makes it an attractive option to take with you to gigs.

The two channels also make it fairly versatile. They allow you to have musicians come over and jam with you while plugging into the same amp.

The Li-ion battery also seems to work incredibly well. The Bose S1 Pro can run for a good few hours before you need to plug it in. It has more than enough playing time for a two or three-set gig.

Performance

When you run your electronic kit through this amp, you can control the bass and treble frequencies. You can also control how much reverb it has. When you combine that with the sound settings on your drum module, you can create some amazing drum kit sounds.

The amp performs like a dream. It has very low noise, and it articulates all your drumming very clearly. The high power also allows you to play very loudly.

You also have three options with placement. You can sit it upright, mount it to a pole, or you can angle it to become a wedge monitor.

Price Value Ratio

The price of the Bose S1 Pro is the one thing that may hold a lot of drummers back. It’s almost double the price of all the popular electronic drum kit monitors, so it would naturally make more sense to buy one of those.

However, this amp is a lot more powerful, and it has the added feature of Bluetooth Connectivity. While other more affordable amps also have that, their sound quality isn’t nearly as good.

So, the price is justified, and it’s well worth paying for this amp.

Things To Consider::

Bose S1 Pro for Rehearsals

If you go to various rehearsal spaces and take your drums with you, this amp is an amazing option to have. The lightweight design makes it so good for that, and the high power also makes it great for playing with other instruments.

If you just need an amp for your kit at home, this one may be too expensive and powerful. You don’t actually need such a big amp for that.

Bose S1 Pro for a Live Gig

The Bose S1 Pro was primarily designed to be a gigging amp. It’s an amp that you’re meant to use for events where you need portability as well as power. So, it’s a great drum amp for playing live gigs.

It’s not too common to use an electronic drum set to play live, but this would be an excellent amp to take with you if you ever do use one in that setting. It’s powerful enough for a medium-sized room.

Conclusion

Overall, the Bose S1 Pro is an amazing amp to use as an electronic drum kit monitor. However, it’s very expensive compared to all the other options available. So, you should only get it if those more affordable ones don’t appeal to you.

If you just need an amp to use in your practice room, consider getting a dedicated amp from Roland or Alesis. That will suit you a lot better, and you’ll save a lot of money.

Another good reason to get the Bose S1 Pro is if you need a powerful portable amp for other reasons. It’s one of the best amps to use for events where you just need to play music or have someone speak into a microphone.
