Alesis Command Mesh Kit Review

Practical Buying Guide

Introduction:

If you’ve heard of Alesis, you’ll know that the brand offers some great affordable electronic kits to compete with the high-end products from Roland and Yamaha.

The Alesis Nitro is definitely the most popular, but the Alesis Command Mesh is a superior kit that we highly recommend.

In this review, we’re going to look at all the key features, explain who the kit is good for, and discuss how good the value is for the money you pay.

Key Features:

The kit has a full set of mesh drum heads. These can be tuned, meaning you can adjust their tension points to make them tighter or looser.

There are three cymbal pads, giving you a hi-hat pad, crash pad, and ride pad.

You then get the Command Mesh drum module, which includes 54 preset drum kit sounds and space for 20 of your own custom kits.

It also has 60 play-along tracks. These tracks are on every Alesis module, and we think they’re great.

Finally, the kit comes with an Alesis bass drum pedal to use.

Alesis Command Mesh Kit Review:

What To Expect from This Electronic Drum

Quality

Alesis drum kits don’t have the same high-quality sounds you’ll get from Roland and Yamaha products, but we were pleasantly surprised by this Command Mesh kit.

There were a few preset kits that sounded big and powerful, and we love hearing them run through different grooves and fills

We like how responsive each pad is, and the fact that you can play two things on each drum pad is a great feature.

We also love the play-alongs that come with the module. They’re very fun to jam out to.

Construction

The construction of this kit is a huge upgrade from the Alesis Nitro Mesh kit. It sits a lot higher, making it more comfortable for adult drummers.

We also like how easy the drum and cymbal pads are to position.

It’s a big plus that you get a kick drum pedal, and the included Alesis pedal feels fantastic to use. It’s highly responsive and gels really well with the bass drum pad.

The only issue with this kit is that the hi-hat pad doesn’t respond how you want it to sometimes. It’s not often, but you’ll find it triggering when it isn’t supposed to every now and then.

Performance

Electronic kits are always fun to play, and this particular kit is no different. With a great feel on the mesh heads and a spaced out setup across the toms, you get a fantastic practice kit to play on when you can’t play an acoustic kit.

We’d definitely recommend this kit over the Nitro Mesh if you’re happy to pay a few hundred dollars more. The performance quality is definitely better, especially when you create your own drum kit combinations on the module.

Price Value Ratio:

Alesis products always score high when regarding value and price. Any other electronic kit that you buy for this price won’t have as many sounds, so you’re getting a lot for how much you pay.

With that said, the kit isn’t as high-quality as Roland or Yamaha options in the same category. If quality and longevity is what you base value on, those would score higher.

Conclusion

To wrap things up, we think the Alesis Command Mesh is a great kit that many drummers would love. It’s most valuable to beginner or intermediate drummers who need something quiet to practice on.

If you’re very experienced, you may be frustrated by the playability and how it doesn’t articulate very complex patterns too well.

We’d mainly recommend this to drummers who are considering an Alesis Nitro kit but want something bigger and more stable to play on. It’s a big upgrade, but it keeps the concept going of Alesis drum sets offering incredible value at a low price.
