Alesis Nitro Pro Review

Practical Buying Guide

Introduction:

Alesis has been one of the top electronic drum brands for beginners for years. Their Alesis Nitro kit has always been a top-seller, with the newer Alesis Nitro Max kicking it up a gear.

Things just got more exciting, though. Let us introduce you to the Alesis Nitro Pro. This is yet another upgraded version of the famous Nitro kit, and it boasts a lot more professional features.

In this review, we’re going to look at what those are, break down how the kit performs, and we’ll discuss where this new kit stands amongst all the entry-level drum kit options.

Key Features

The Nitro Pro is a small electronic drum set with a very affordable price tag. You can identify it by it’s strong red coloring.

It has a 10” snare pad, three 8” tom pads, an 8” kick pad, and three 10” cymbal pads. All of the drum pads have mesh designs, including the kick pad.

The pads are held together with a steel rack that is very stable.

On the module, you get 36 presets and 16 blank kits for User customization and over 500 sounds to play around with.

All of the sounds come from BFD, which is a high-quality VST for drum sounds.

When you purchase the kit, you also get a 90-day free subscription to Drumeo, which is an online drum lesson platform.

PROS: THINGS WE LIKED
  • Massive upgrade from the Alesis Nitro and Nitro Max kits
  • Top-quality sounds from the module
  • Feels a lot sturdier than the Nitro and Nitro Max kits
  • The mesh kick drum feels great to play
  • More of an intermediate kit than a beginner one
CONS: THINGS WE DIDN'T LIKE
  • The price tag isn’t as attractive as the other versions of the Alesis Nitro

FEATURED ON

What to Expect from the Alesis Nitro Pro?

Quality

The very first thing we noticed about this kit was how responsive all of the drum pads feel. You have dual-zone playability on each pad, meaning you can play various sounds and mix them together.

The larger snare pad also offers a more realistic feel while playing, which is great!

While we love the Alesis Nitro kit, the one downside about it has always been the sound quality. There’s a major upgrade with this Nitro Pro drum set.

You’re getting sounds from BFD, which is a really high-quality VST. You’ll instantly notice how much better the sounds are that come from this module.

So, when you combine the great sound quality with the authentic feel of the pads, you get a fantastic mixture.

A lot of drummers liked to use the older Nitro kit along with a VST.Alesis now gives you BFD to do that exact same thing.

So, you get the initial kits that come with the module, but you’ll unlock a bunch more sounds when connecting the module to BFD on a computer.

Construction

The striking red colors on the pad are the first thing to mention with construction. We love how Alesis is pushing through with red colors on their kits to make them stand out and become recognizable.

When comparing the design of this kit to the previous versions, our favorite upgrade is probably the kick pad. Previously, Nitro kits had 6” bass drum pads. While those felt great, they weren’t incredibly stable when playing hard.

This new 8” kick drum pad is a much better addition. It feels a lot more stable due to the larger surface area.  This allows you to use a Double Pedal without any problems.

We should also mention the improved steel rack that holds everything together. Another major improvement here is that it can be raised quite high, allowing taller drummers to feel very comfortable.

That’s something that a lot of people have problems with when using the normal Alesis Nitro kit. It sits really low, so it seems to be a better option for kids. The Alesis Nitro Pro kit is definitely an adult-friendly option.

ALESIS NITRO Pro

Performance

Another thing that we love about this kit is how the cymbals respond. They all can be choked, giving you a wider range of playing options.

The only thing we don’t like about them is that they’re not completely covered in a rubber playing surface. However, that’s not something you’ll find on most kits within this price range.

We also love the phone holder on the module. This design allows you to place your phone there and use it easily while practicing or performing. Mix that with the Bluetooth capability and you’ll be spending hours jamming to your favorite songs.

While the performance is fantastic, we also need to compare it to other kits in this price range.

We’d say this kit is a strong contender, but it still has some solid competition from Roland and Yamaha in terms of sound quality. However, you’re getting a lot more in most other areas.

That brings us to the price-to-value comparison.

Price to Value:

The kit costs around $600, which is actually quite a big jump from what the standard Alesis Nitro kit has always been. This puts the kit closer to an intermediate level, bringing it in line with beginner Roland and Yamaha kits.

We’d honestly say that the price tag is highly worth it, though. The sounds, playability, construction quality, and overall value all line up with what you can typically expect from a kit at this price.

We should also mention that you get a free 90-day subscription for Drumeo. That would typically cost close to $100, so even more value is added on with that.

Conclusion

Overall, we’d say that the Alesis Nitro Pro is an amazing upgrade in the Alesis Nitro line. It’s a fantastic kit that all beginner and intermediate drummers should consider.

The BFD preset sounds are a highlight, and the large mesh pads feel amazing to play. Alesis has taken all the good aspects of the standard Nitro kit and made them even better.

We also love the red colors of the kit, as they give it a lot of personality. That’s something that you don’t usually get from electronic sets.
